Took my 76 for a drive today, got a mile and a half from home and she died, instantly. No sputter no spitting no coughing just stopped. Everything seems to work and the engine turns over. Luckily was able to just tug it home without busting the front bumper off.
Checked my dizzy, pulled a plug only to see it covered in gas, checked it against the exhaust manifold, no spark.
I've got an Accel 140003 hei super coil, and from what i can tell i have 12V ignition power (pink and brown wires). Multimeter says the coil is 1.2 ohms, not open, but i would have guessed it to be slightly higher, maybe shorted? The rotor turns with the engine so i know the gear didn't strip out.
What does a guy check or replace here? Get a whole new distributor? or i see there are some other electrical things under the rotor i don't know what they are. My experience with distributors is limited and i probably sound like i know more than i actually do .
You guys are awesome! In the process of recurring dizzy, quit all together! Came on the forum... Bold type, got no spark, me too, click, changed that piece, and back in business. Thanks guys!
yup took right off, it appears the cap and coil were changed on mine but it was still an original module. Bought the expensive accel module, took right off. Thanks!
