I've got 40's on mine and all you can see are the exhaust tips.

that is to balance the Flow of the exhaust and Also to cut down on the loundness and boost the power of the engine.........They say it is good for an additional 5 to 10hp.......in some cases
It's amazing how much an "H" pipe can reduce the volume, even with minimalist mufflers.

I had the Delta 40's put on an otherwise stock 82. They are tucked in more than the stock muffler and sound much better. A low rumble but not loud. Sounds just right to us.

Ah...yes...I have a nice throaty rumble at idle, but it becomes quite a roar upon application of full throttle. And you could say I have "minimalist" mufflers...Moroso Spiral Racing mufflers...basically they are JCL baffles, but in a small package for under car application.

Get the Flowmasters.

He said they sound good and they hide in the well better than the Series 40 Flowmasters.
Take a look, mine work fine and fit just like the stock series. I do know the 50 Flowmasters are longer and will stick out behind the car, maybe the machanic has these mixed up.

But they do have interior resonance. I controlled my interior resonance by installing Dynamat Sound Deadener in my cockpit this past winter. Really helped and the pipes sound really

I don't think an "H" pipe applies to a stock '81. I don't have true dual exhaust so there's a front Y pipe going to the cat, and a rear Y going from the cat to the mufflers. Because it isn't a true dual, there is no reason for an "H" pipe, let alone any room for it. :mad

Yet another disadvantage of the late 70's through early 80's Vette's.

Leo,
I've got true duals on my 81 & highly recommend them (if local laws allow you to fit them). But you will find that even the standard mufflers will be louder as each cylinder only has one muffler trying to silence it. An "H" pipe will be fitted to mine at some point as it's just a bit too loud at the moment.

Great idea going with the Flowmasters. I would go with the X or H pipe mandatory :yesnod: . It takes a little audio out but helps the motor breathe. My friend put them on his 77; Yea you can see them. So we painted them black. . Good luck!
