Transmission & shifter challenges
If this issue ONLY happens from 1st to 2nd...then it is more than likely an internal transmission issue.
How smooth is it going from 1st to 2nd???? Regardless of RPM.
Also...if everything is new and fresh...Not knowing if you know...you should be easy on the clutch during its "break-in" period ( about 500+ miles of easy driving...No speed shifting or crazy stuff).
Also...if it does it in another gear...check your clutch adjustment.
If it does is again...because it recently happened to me...the pilot bushing in the end of the crank was bad and not allowing the transmission to unload when the clutch was pressed and I could not get it into gear with the engine running. It seems that that is not your issue...but it is hard to comment any further without having the car in front of me. But I stand by my first comment...it is not the shifter...especially if all of the rods are tight and the correct "G" clips are being used as the factory designed where required. If cotter pins are being used...it allows the shifter rods to twist and rock side to side. I have seen people use washers and cotter pins...but I usually remove them and install the correct "G" tension clips.

Thanks for the feedback. It seems to shifts smooth at low RPM into all the gears but higher RPMs it seems bind before going into next gear. I had the transmission completely rebuilt with all new parts and did have a new pilot bearing installed. I'm going to check all the shift linkage to make sure all is correct and adjusted correctly. Will also check clutch adjustment.
