The ign switch is in the on position. It will rotate to start but not to off. I think my sector gear is off by a tooth. Can I realign it if I pull the lock cylinder out? Or is there an easy way to realign without dissassembling the TT column?
It is a 73 coupe. Not sure if the column is original....PO's have changed many things. It does not have the lever to push to get into switch the lock position so I think it is pre '74. It is a T/T column.
No, you cannot realign the plastic sector gear by just removing the ignition lock cylinder. You will need to disassemble the steering wheel, hub, locking plate, turn signal switch, and the turn signal housing in order to get at the sector.
Here are three papers with instructions on disassembly of the T&T column. http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/?p=1004

I got the column half apart. Hot day in the garage so I quit and got caught up on the computer. For some reason I clicked on the sticky that was discussing the ign key being stuck. It wasn't my problem so I hadn't read it before. Lightning Strike It was the Park/reverse interlock that was the problem. My cable was disabled at some point by a PO. Wired it in up position and all is good. Horn doesn't work, not sure if I lost something taking the steering column apart, but I'll tackle it another day.
I asked a moderator to change the title of the sticky. It now reads: "Ignition switch tumbler doesn't rotate to all positions malfunction" hopefully that will save someone else the trouble I went through.
