My L88 hood is here, and I'm having trouble getting it to line up properly. I know I can get it to line up eventually, but I was wondering if anyone has a better way than just guessing, adjusting, then lowering slowly.
Where is it not linin up? I had problems with it being too high where it meets the grill by the wiper door and had to remove the lock nuts from the rubber bumpers and run em down flush so the hood would lay flat. Good luck; I love mine and am fixin to add the airbox when the brown truck arrives with the rest of the parts!
This does not address your problem; but, it's a technique I've used when removing and replacing the same hood during rebuilds etc. I'll share it for the benifit of those who don' know about it. It really simplifies or eliminates the need for re-alignment. This of course assumes the hood is properly aligned before removal.
Prior to removal drill a 1/8" (.125) dia. hole through the hinge bracket and the hood on both sides. Install a 1/8" roll pin in the holes. when re-installing the hood just place the hood holes over the roll pins and you have established the original alignment. It really works smooth. Of course if you remove the hood hinge to fender/body mounting bolts, all bets are off.
Try this, with the hood removed position the hinges as they would normaly be with the hood closed. Have someone help you place the hood on the car, check the alignment and when your satisfied you can reach the front if not both bolt holes in the hinges from under the car :smash: done it a dozen times
Steve, what I did when I replaced my motor mount was to throw two ropes over the rafters of my garage so that they hang over the hood...one near the front (hinge location) and one near the back (windshield location). The one at the front location I tied together as a loop. With the hood open I tied the two ends of the rear rope to the hood latches so that the hood was balanced in place. The benefit is that the hood is supported and balanced while aligning the hinges and installing the bolts.
