Default TH350 holes?

I am attempting to rebuild the TH350 out of my 78. After disassembling most of it, I found a few holes at the bottom of the case, above the valve body area. At first glance they appear to be jagged, but Im not so sure. I did a search and found a few other pictures of the same thing, but nothing that addresses these holes directly. Are these factory holes for something that they just didnt bother to machine smoothly? A popular aftermarket modification of some kind? Or do I need a new case altogether?

I'm thinking those holes are just thin spots in the casting that have gone thru. IIRC, the only thing running right in that area is the band. Put the spacer plate on and compare the holes in it to the case, and then see if there are an passages in the valve body that will leak.

Completely normal for a TH350

Think of it as drain back holes.
