Default Valve guide seals

I want to replace my valve guide seals on my '79 C-3 with out removing the heads. I've done this once before and I have the tools. I need my memory refreshed, do I need to have the piston TDC when I do that cyl. I can't remember if I rotated each piston up before doing each one ? Thanks in Advance.

pull all the rockers and you can do them with out turning the engine over...and over. member lars has an excellent paper on the best way I have ever used, and I've been doing it for over 40 years.

Just email him and ask for the newest version.

I don't have the address on my iPad but do a search on his user name and the email is in his signature.

If you are using air to keep the valve up, the air pressure will force the piston to the bottom of the stroke. Don't try to keep the piston at the top of the dtroke, with the compressed ait method, it doesn't matter. Pull all your plugs and remove the rockers. Would be a great time for roller rockers.

Roller rockers are a complete waste of money for the average "motorhead". Roller lifters/cam is a different story, however.

I think roller rockers would be the absolutely LAST add-on for a very well built up engine that will turn over 7000 rpm. Otherwise, forget it.

Rollers are much more precise than stamped steel, with regard to ratio. They wear less than the stamped steel. Both at the tip and the fulcrum end. MAgree, not necessary, but a nice add on. The bearing fulcrum creates a touch less heat than metal scrubbing on metal under high spring pressure.

MY preference is the PC Viton seals. Be sure and check that you get the correct diameter seal for your valve AND valve guide. Some require cutting the guide to fit. And use the seal install tool that keeps the sharp edge of the valve from cutting the ID of the seal.

The money is better spent elsewhere.
