Default 72 interior rear screws?

Does anybody know of a vendor that sells an interior screw set for the rear pieces of the car? I am finally putting some of my interior pieces back in after 14 years of being out of the car. A lot of the screws were all rusty and some didn't match. I would like to know what kind of screws go where and such. I figured if one of the vendors sold a kit then that would help a bunch.
Thanks in advance.

Scott

if you have an ace hardware near you, take the existing fasteners and match them. ace has a very good selection of stainless screws and hex head machine screws.

Try Doc Rebuild. He has all that stuff, reproduction and NOS. Good prices too. Google him.. If I put his link on here, this post might be deleted
He gives good service, it's just that he and CF don't get along.

I have purchased the "complete screw set" of a '71 coupe...and most of the fasteners weren't exactly like the originals that I still had. Would they fit and do the job? Yes. Were they "correct"? No.

I don't know where you can buy some of those 'special' screws that GM specified for their products.

Thanks All! Can anyone tell me if they used "finishing" washers on any of the pieces such as the rear roof panels connection to the rear quarter panels and the trim that goes underneath the rear window?

Your best bet is to check the AIM page tht shows the interior parts you are investigating. The P/N list on that page shows what partnames are used and the P/N's and quantities of all pieces. By referencing other pages with similar (or the same) parts that you know are correct, you can match up P/N's and often determine the specific parts being used elsewhere.

I purchased an "interior screw kit" from one of the vendors/sponsors on this board.

I have a convertible and half the screws were for the rear part of a coupe. The little bags were even labeled so to know were they should be installed.

The kit wasn't too expensive and I'd recommend it.

The hardware in those kits work just fine. But many of the parts are not exactly the same as what came on the car.

Hi Scott,
If the interior soft parts are the originals you can sometimes tell where the 'finishing washers' were used.... that washer leaves a distinct ring in the soft part.
There are really just a few places they were used. The finishing washer is part number 140270, yes a very odd part number.
Much more common than the finishing washer was the 'collet' that was part of the screws used for the 'very' soft parts like the dash pads to prevent the screw's head from twisting the vinyl skin on the soft part.
I'd be careful about using hardware store fasteners since they generally will work, but are easy to spot... (if that matters to you).
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

I always like Alan's photo's. They're like time capsules.

Alan - Didn't they use a smaller finishing washer on the long trim piece under the rear window? There are two screws attaching it, one on each end.

Hi Duff,
Your RIGHT! I forgot about those.
There's no finishing washer shown in the AIM UPC 1, Sheet F18, but they were on my mid January build 71.
Regards,
Alan

Yeah, those are the ones. I think the Dr Rebuild screw kit has the correct washers.
