Default Side pipes and O2 sensor?

I wanna put an aftermarket fuel injection on my 73. Can anybody suggest a good location for the O2 sensor?

In the exhaust system, as close to the head as you can get it. That's about all I can tell you without knowing more about your exhaust system.

my exhaust is a set of OBX side pipes bolted to a ZZ4 crate motor. I read a FI web site and it mentioned putting to sensor 2-3 inches down from the collector but obviously that won't work! i guess I'll just put in in one of the cylinder tubes? I di manage to mod the headers to fit the rack and pinion though

Yes...that is the logical location. Also ...not knowing if you are aware of them or not...but wiring in a heated O2 sensor could be beneficial.

the problem with putting it in one tube is that you are getting a reading from just one cylinder instead of four.

I've mounted it a few inches down the collector. I stuffed up a bit when I measured its position as I didn't have the headers fully mounted.
I plan on pulling the engine soon so will weld a new bung slightly higher and back a bit further. This will get the sensor closer to the frame.

^^^^ that is where mine is mounted too - I've a couple thousand miles with it in that location, it works fine. That said, mine is parallel with the ground because I'm afraid I'd hook it on something with it pointing down.

When I marked the position of the bung I only had the header loosely bolted to the head. I was thinking that the sensor would just clear the frame. When I fully tightened the header I found out that I welded the bung in too low

It worries me that it might hook on something so I'm going to mount it so it sits just below and parallel with the frame.

What FI system are you using? I'm thinking about trading out my carb for a TBI system. (I'm also driving using a ZZ4 powerplant.)

Nice, shiny sidepipes, btw.

you may be able to heat it and bend it up with a big screwdriver to get the fitting parallel to the ground, shouldn't hurt anything.

I believe OBX sells optional side pipes with the 02 bungs installed where they are in the above pics....

Absolutely. Put it in the collector, so you are reading half the engine.
