Default 77 Clutch woes

Took my 77 L82 4spd out of storage. Started right up (never a problem here) but will not go into gear. If I forced it there would be alot of grinding - not good. I am thinking the fix is probably a clutch plate kit?

It all depends. IF you can get the transmission to go into gear WITHOUT the engine running. BUT it will not go into gear when the engine is running. You can have a problem in the pilot bushing and the input shaft seized together....thus not allowing the trans to stop spinning..because the engine is spinning when you are trying to engage a gear.

If you get it into gear when the engine is not running. Release the clutch pedal and verify that it is in gear by pushing the car and trying to move it. A helper would be great here. Then slowly press the clutch pedal down while the helper is pushing the car and see if the clutch releases and allows the car to move. If it does...but feels hard to push due to amount of effort it requires...it is telling me that the linkage is fine...but the pilot bushing is the culprit. Make sure your tires are check for proper air pressure. Low air pressure makes the car really hard to push and can give you a false "feeling" when it is being pushed. If everything is fine...I can do this myself by using my left foot outside and pushing the car backwards when I am pressing the clutch pedal in.

Thx for the info. Will try it and see what happens.
I know it will not go into gear with the engine running.
I did try to put it into gear with the engine off and it still would not go into gear.
I'll try it again and see what happens. But I have a feeling it will not go into gear running or not so then it's more than likely the pilot bushing and input shaft, based on the information you have given me..

Before you drop the trans check the bushings on the linkage ends and check linkage adjustment per manual specs
