Talked to Lars via Email. We have been mislead by the OP with regards to Lars endorsement that ZDDP levels are irrelevant. I will not post the E-mail he sent me since it was a private correspondence but I will say the original post is misleading on multiple levels and comments were taken out of context similar to the test results.
One thing I can say is 540 Rat, Lars and I agree the testing is useful if taken as a comparative film strength test on new oil @ 230 degrees. I doubt Lars will post here.

As a member of the flat cam club my hat is off to you, 63MAKO for some straight advice.
it was the obvious way to deal with it , we should have done that straight off. sad when someone is so determined to be right they misrepresent others opinions.

I am a member of that club as well. 2006, 10.5 to 1 fully forged 302 Chevy with nice hydraulic flat tappet. Running Shell Rotella 15W-40. Wiped 3 lobes in under 5000 miles and trashed motor.
I have a very good friend (owner Magnum Supercharges) here in Minnesota that is a longtime member of the national engine rebuilders associaton. He gave me a real eye opener when I asked him about zinc phosphur additives. Since the oil manufactures cut the levels of these additives, he has seen a 25% increase of cam failures in flat tappet engines. I now use eastmans zddp aditive, or try to get valvoline, I think it is their ZR1 product that has the old levels of zinc and phosphur.
