I was in the engine bay clearing up some issues and noticed a melted place on the wiring loom that runs horizontal to the firewall (the protion that leads to the starter). The large red wire has a 1/4" portion that the insulation is melted off, the small brown/white stripe wire is melted into. The brown/white stripe wire had about one extra foot of wire looped and taped in place....is this correct from the factory?
My main questions is: do the two small brown/white stripe wires just get soldered back together? If so why so much "slack" from the factory?
Hi Kevin,
The only wire I can think you're asking about is the wire for the temperature sensor in the right side head. This wire has some extra length to it that was 'bundled up'. But it's not brown.
What kind of connector is on the brown/white wire?
Regards,
Alan
Hi Kevin,
I'm still puzzled!
The group of wires that exit the harness in the center of the firewall are the 2 wires for the coil, the wires (various colors) for the wiper motor and washer pump, and the wires for the CEC system. One of those wires is long since it runs along the driver's side valve cover to the solenoid on the front of the carb.
That's all I can think of... sorry.
Picture?
Regards,
Alan
I checked my original harness (1971 SB AC AUTO) that I kept after replacing all my harness's and there is wires brown with the white stripe TWO of them with the extended loop (the location is near the end f harness where the wires attach to the starter). It seems to run back to the fuse box on one of them the other??
Thanks for your efforts...i think you are in the right area. My wires where kind of melted together and I don't know if the brown/white was just a loop and wired to itself or what??
Alan...quit showing pictures of your engine bay, I am compulsive and may tear out everything I have previously done and start over.
