Default Water Control

On a 73, in the area where the windshield wipers sit, was there a system to control where the water goes? Judging by rust in my car, it's getting into the car.

Hi Frank,
This is a problematic area on many cars.
The wiper bay/cowl area was sealed in various ways and the water supposedly diverted to the right and left sides of the bay and down the plenum area left open between the sides of the cowl and the inside of the side fender on each side.
If the wiper bay became crusted with wet debris the dampness started the leaking and rusting troubles.
If you're getting water IN the car there must be some areas of seal that have failed.
If for instance the wiper transmissions are removed to be worked on but not sealed when replaced, the water has a direct route to the dash area of the car.
I think unless you can find the specific place that's leaking the whole wiper bay will need to be throughly cleaned and then sealed. Not a quick or easy job.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Do you have an Assembly Instruction Manual for your car? It shows how the cowl and parts mounted to it was sealed originally.

Hi Alan, thanks for the response. Good info, I will check my assembly manual. Doing a huge amount on this car. Love the process, not much is quick or easy about it. Take care!
