Tinting the color and spraying a test panel may be required. Just putting a paint stick in the can and pulling it out and checking the color that way DOES NOT WORK!!!
And the reason the color changes on the angle is due to an additive in the paint that can make the color do dark on the angle.
You need to have a good eye and check the angles ..and under different types of light...and if you do not shoot a test panel the EXACT SAME WAY as you plan to shoot the repair...do not expect the repair to turn out the same. I do so much tinting and color matching...I have found that PROCEDURE IS important...and this also goes as far as when you are shooting your test panel...and you have the mixed paint in your paint gun. You go and apply a coat on your test panel. Take you paint and empty this thinned/reduced basecoat back into your mixing cup with what you have already thinned/reduced. WHY do you ask????
WELL...if you shoot a coat on your test panel...then walk out of the booth for 10-15 minutes while it flashed off...because that is what you are going to do when you paint the car...the paint that is in your gun cup will allow the metallic's/pearls to settle in the bottom...and when you go and shoot another coat...the metallic's will throw off your color (lighten it) and now you do not have a PROPERLY MIXED COLOR to test.
The same will hold true when you go and paint the car. BECAUSE...normally when painting an entire car...a painter will empty hid/her gun back in the can...or have such a little bit left in the cup...he/she will pour it back into the "mix"...stir it and then fill up the cup again. And when painting an entire all-over...it is different than trying to match a color that is "touchy" to say the least.
