Default t top fix

The fiberglass under 3 of the 4 chrome pins that secure the t tops to the center posts are cracked and popped. What is the best way to repair such a break? thanks

Need to see what you are seeing. Post photo's...and PLEASE if you take a super close-up...take a photo a little bit back away so I (we) can see it differently. SUPER close up photo's do not help in most cases without a photo of the damage take several inches/a foot back from it.

I would say fiberglass it with some stainless steel screen to give it strengthen without building it up to high or just hit eBay for a replacement top and have both tops painted to matched .

A few questions.

1.) Are the tops painted very well and matching the car now?
2.) What color is your car?
3.) Are you wanting "BOZO"repair ( a repair made so when you look at the damaged area when completed. You can see that a BOZO repaired it) or a "PROPER REPAIR" ( which is just what it reads. A repair that would be done in a way that you would have a very hard time noticing anything evident that was done to repair it)???
4.) Your skill level???
5.) What do you want to see when it is repaired??? 1 to 10. 1 being a BOZO job and highly noticeable...10 being undetectable.....which can be achieved.
6.) Are you willing to put time into this repair????

This can be done and repaired without you being able to detect it...but it will take some time...mainly due to cure times. Even as far as replacing the aluminum rivets to replace the factory ones that more than likely will be removed and replaced.

THANKS for the GREAT photo's

My car is Steel Cities Gray BB Coupe..Thanks, I hear what you are saying. The tops are quite good now as far as paint but there are some minor scratches and 2 small spots of bad paint so I might repaint when I get them done. I have not done fiberglass work before but think I can fix with thin plate and although one can tell I do not think it will be too noticeable as the headliner covers most and the res will be unseen when on the car but yes if one looks even all painted to match a Vette person will know it has been patched. I think I will try and if I am unhappy will have someone who knows fiberglass fix.

if you are afraid of doing the repair, take them to a good corvette fiberglass repair shop and have them do the repairs to your specs.

Hi ex,
The problem with using a plate and rivets is that the surface you'll be adding the plate to is the surface that the determines how well the top panels fit against the center roof bar.
Often there is a shim or two needed under the wedges that mount there, but not always. The repair plates and rivets may raise the wedges too high above their mounting surface and there'd be no recourse for that.
I'm thinking it has to be a fiberglass and resin repair. It's not an easy repair, but certainly do-able.
Regards,
Alan

You can see 2 shims in place in this picture.

If you are planning on repainting the tops when you get done with the repair. Why waste the time. Get another set and paint them.

If not. They can be repaired without being able to tell...but that is totally up to you if you care to do it or not.
