Just got my copy of the AIM yesterday. Need to get a '76 shop manual; one of the forum members suggested an earlier model year C3 Corvette manual with the '76 supplement.
I have opportunity to pick up a used service manual, but it's titled:
"1976 Chevrolet Service & Overhaul Manual Supplement for Chevrolet, Chevelle, Camaro, Monte Carlo, Nova, Corvette."
Would this manual provided enough specific info on the Corvette, or would it be compromised by details of the other 4 vehicles. I realize GM is GM, but this is my first 'Vette project so I could use some advice.

Dan...that be the one for your model year but the version I have is titled 1976 Passenger Car Service & Overhaul Manual Supplement...! The name on the cover differs from that on the binding but they are one in the same.

They are probably referring to the 1974 Passenger Car Service Manual that is three times as thick as the 1976 publication and includes much more detail. The 1976 manual supplemented the 1974 manual with model-year specific details.

Understand that the first Corvette-specific shop manual was not published until 1979. Otherwise Corvette was packaged with other passenger vehicles and the names changed every few years. The other manual that would have been available in 1976 was titled Chassis Overhaul Manual.
My suggestion is to get both and if you find yourself into major overhaul, get the overhaul manual.
AAAAAAAAAAha......so this rookie needs a 1968 overhaul manual to rebuild the A/T......and anything else that needs detailed repairs???
For 1968 to completely cover yourself you need both manuals. For an example to adjust a carburetor you need the Chasis Service manual. To rebuild the carburetor you need the Chasis Overhaul manual.
Hi,
I'll clarify too.
My understanding is similar to h4c's, the 76 Chassis Service Supplement was intended to be used WITH the 74 Chassis Service Manual.
I also agree with MW that the Overhaul Manual is useful in a different way from the Service Manual. The one I use is from 66 to 74. I bought that one because I came across it, and it covered the year I was interested in.
Regards,
Alan
I ordered the following from Helms for my 76 (or I think it was Helms).
Got the AIM, which you mentioned.
The factory package I got from Helms included the following:
1974 Service Manual
1974 Overhaul Manual
1976 Service and Overhaul Supplement
1976 Electrical Diagrams
*Was not cheap, but not overly expensive
*The supplement is only the add on info to the 74 manuals. The supplement does not repeat any of the 74 stuff.
*And yes, it includes info on all Chevy cars, so you have to pick out the Corvette stuff.
