I got some Goodyear tires on in right now, but i mean it's all stock except for the suspension we installed, i want to buff it up but i don't plan on running it on drag races or so, i just want to have a really mean car hahah, and well in the engine build i would like to build my own but i don't have the knowledge yet, have to wait till i start my mechanical engineer career next year lol.....
aahh ok fair enough, i am looking for better HP after all or like 427hotrod said a better HP/CID haha, so what do you guys think does the engine that Mako suggested good? or should i build my own like 427hotrod said? need the website thou :P
I can't believe nobody's said this yet, but a ZZ4 might be just what this guy wants...at least, for starters. And, it's good to see you back on the forum, Billa!
Ok well i got the 402 realstreet small block engine and the ZZ454 big block crate engine as choices, or if their is another choice that provides the equal amount of HP/CID with a lower price please tell me hahaha but for now i'll have to aks my dad see what he thinks im leaning on the ZZ454 but what do you guys think?
Those two crate engines are a slightly "apples to oranges" comparison. There are ; weight differences , the extra changes to convert to a bigblock, different running temperaments between the two ( alittle more rear gear and convertor for the smallblock).
The smallblock will have your idle and temperament , the bigblock will
seem stock !
The smallblock would also walk away from the big'n !!
The 454 will be more difficult and more expensive assuming you have a 73 small block car. Check out nyes automotive also. They have a good reputation and build a quality product.
If you stay small block, I would suggest staying at a 383. You could use your short block for the upgrade and save more money. The money you save on the bottom end (short block), could be better spent on good heads and intake. 500hp is not unrealistic and wouldnt require any upgrades to the drive train.
racingjunk.com was selling 427 dart short blocks for $4000.add some alum heads for $1300,and add a roller cam for $900.you can have a 525 hp 427 sbc for $ 7500.
Sold my 76 but I went with a Fast burner with the optional performance pck. Roller cam brought rated HP to 425. Cost was $7500. Like suggested by others I did keep the orig. mtr., infact I still have it . New owner did not want. Good luck.
Sold my 76 but before I had a Fast Burner crate installed, roller cam pchg. brought rated HP to 425. Also like others mentioned I kept the orig. mtr. New owner did not want so I still have it. Price of mtr and install $7500.
Sold my 76 but before I did it had a Fast Burner 425Hp rated mtr. Very pleased and very fast. I agree with others about suspension and keeping orig. mtr. Good Luck
Start out with a really good block and get it before the Jan 1 2014 eight percent price increase a dart SHP block. Or you can buy a dart short block ready to go 400/406 cu. This gets you past weak tired old blocks or even weak new blocks based on the old production block. It gets you good machine work from them. Then its just a matter of what heads and cam you want. Hydraulic roller will do what most people want. The shp block is made out of higher grade of iron, thicker cylinder walls, better caps, better oiling system, better cooling, the list of improvements is long. Its rated at 600hp but they are running far more power then that without problems, Don't poor thousands of dollars into a build with a weak platform nobody has to anymore !!! You don't have to spend anywhere near $10,000 for the total build but if you have that kind of money just pick up the friggen phone call dart have them ship you an assembled shortblock based off something, not crap production blocks. Your lucky enough to have the money to do this right the first time don't experiment with your money on a production block only spend the money once. pauldana built a 383 tried to use a cast steel crank, production block. Now he's paying for it big time with thousands of dollars to build a new engine.
