Hi i took out the drive shaft on my 1973 454 and marked it but ended up cleaning it up and painting it, and forgot to mark it when i did that and wondering if it matters how it goes back in ( which side goes towards the trans for instance- i noticed there is a washer like piece on one end (weight?) which end does this go to?
Personally I think it makes no difference since if you had to replace it the new one is not marked. If after installing it you notice a low speed vibration that wasnt there before, just unbolt one end and turn it 1/2 way.
Hi 73,
On my 71's drive-shaft there's a small rectangular weight at each end, and the washer shaped weight you mention at the differential end of the drive-shaft.
I think following Mel's advice is the thing to do.
Regards,
Alan
i sort of knew about the turning it if i developed a vibration, i was most concerned about the end-to-end install as i could not see a diffrence -- i will put the washer in the back--
