Default Engine Paint-Fasteners

I rencently copleted the engine painting, decided to paint every part before essembly and glad I went that route. I was able to get in every corner and crevis better, great looking parts.

My question now is if I paint the head bolts I'm thinking they will crack the paint during torquing. I want the OEM look but thinking about dipping them in gun blueing and leaving black or maybe paint after assembly?

Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks, Kevin

The head bolts that fit 'inside' the valve cover do not get painted.

A little gun blueing sounds cool!. I usually paint them the same as the block after torquing.

Painting cylinder head bolt in advace of installation is a losing proposition. Because of the high torque required on those bolts, most of the paint is wiped off, anyway. Just paint the whole block once the 'orange' stuff is all installed.

Hi Kevin,
You might consider making little masks to fit the various size bolts that may need to have the paint touched up on them once the engine is running and you've sealed any oil leaks.
Regards,
Alan

Then skip the bluing. They got a less than perfect coat of engine color at the engine assembly plant.
