In 69 was the carpet cut to overlap the front of the seat mounts covering the bolt and base of the mount or was the mount bolted directly over the capret? It kind of looks like a flap is cut to slide the mount in and cover the bolt in the AIM but it's hard to see. Also, if this was done was it front and rear or just the front of the mount?
Thanks guys!
Carpet was cut for the front feet and the flap was folded over the seat mounting bolt heads. AIM says to glue the flap to the bolt head. Not cut for the rears.
Hi CG,
In 71 (maybe before, too) a small rectangle of carpet was actually removed at the flap so all of the front of the track sits directly on the fiberglass.
I don't know if you want to go through that effort or not.

Alan
Thanks for the info guys. I did go to the trouble of removing the underlay below my cuts so the frame pad would "sink down" and the top cutout would lay even on top of the rail. I am trying to keep the old girl as original a possible and started with a 1/8" mark on a seat bottom. I found after removal the entire interior including carpets was original with the dated stickers on the carpet and stamps on the seat covers. That kind of progressed to seat removal, new foam, new backs, parts, screws, carpet, console and pretty well a full blown interior.
The interior on my wife's 78 was a breeze compared to this but I guess GM made it easier as the years progressed.
Having fun though and am just trying to get it right.

Hi CG,
Did you happen to find the original carpet underlayment under your carpet?
If so did you keep it?
Regards,
Alan
Yes I did Alan. It was like tarpaper with a quarter inch pad stuck to it. I put it out in the trash last week and why do I have the feeling I just did something really bad....?
It's an all original 427 car. My wife bought it for me after the owner died and his wife put it out on the curb with a "for sale" sign on it. She was in Vancouver for a medical appointment and spotted it on a side street on her way to the mall...
It had been sitting for a couple of years.
It's a beautiful old car and since it's original I don't want to screw it up. This is my 35th Vette and my wife and I have a 78 S/A an 02 Z06 and an 07 Z06. My first Corvette was in 1970 and it was a 69 427 so this is something special to me.
She found it, pulled in, sent me a cell pic below and bought it.
Not your typical woman but when I met her she was installing a motor in her 78 and I made the mistake of asking her if she needed help..... She didn't.

Hi CG,
That's too bad. It's pretty rare to see the original underlayment.
Since you describe the car as "all original" it would have been good to keep it even if you didn't reuse it.

Alan

I was going to keep it but it all smelled really bad after 44 years. I think the garbage was the appropriate place for it and my wife thanked me. I kept the carpet stickers but that's it.
