Hello everybody, I'm new to the forum and excited to be here!
I have been made aware of the fact most if not all the cruise servos for the C3 are no longer being manufactured and the fact that mine is a '77 compounds the issue because it was a "one off year". I'm hoping somebody has a solution to this issue because this car is a daily driver and used for highway travel and needs the cruise to function. I was told I could update to a newer system but I'm not sure how to approach that if even feasible. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
It could be any number of issues from very minor to very expensive. Details, please. After checking fuses and vacuum hoses, tell us if it is still not working.
Search the internet for detailed info on disassembly and repair of the GM cruise transducer. It may also have info on diagnosing it for identifying the specific fault.
You best bet is to repair the unit that you presently have. That would eliminate any problems due to the "one-off" configuration.
They are fairly simple systems. You only have to take care with the speed regulation system inside (springs, trigger wires, etc.). It is an easy disassembly.
On my 77 cruise control servo the ball chain under the rubber boot broke.
I replaced it with a chain off a sink drain plug. The 78 and up servo should work. They are easy to find. they are bolted on to the intake behind the carb.
I have been doing some research this winter as that is one of my projects next summer. Found this site on line that seems to shed some light on the system itself and how it is suppose to work. I have found the transducer at the local auto parts store, as long as the servo holds vacuum it should be okay. I have done some research into servos that would work or be good replacements and it seems the early monte carlos seems to be a suitable donor. I added the website, hope it helps.
no new chain linkage is available that I have found, I put a 77 CC on my 76, messed up the chain linkage, never found another, so put on a 80or 82 servo and linkage, used the rest of 77 parts
