Default Corvette starter details - constant problems

Guys, once again I need your help!
I have my car almost ready, but have constant problems with my starter... I have broke two already and beeing in Poland and ordering them in USA pushes me back for a month every time. So my problem is that after couple engine starts it starts to ratle and the inside of the starter is broken. I think that I have ordered the first one wrong, probably it has the wrong numer of teeth. Can any of you check the numer of teeth on the gear of the starter?

I'll try this one. This is a new starter in my basement inventory for a 1974 350 with automatic transmission. This unit should be common 1970 through 1982. The manual transmission cars apparently take a different unit although I do not know what the difference between auto and manual starters is. I count nine (9) teeth on the Bendix. The part reference is Remy International #96122.

Good point! I have never seen the internals of a starter fall apart after a couple of starts. Surely the vendor will have something to say to the buyer.

Yep. 4 speed and AT starters are differnet because the flywheels have a different number of teeth on them. Starter must match the flywheel.

If you're sure the engine and flywheel is stock, you should be able to order the correct starter. If not, you have to know the number of teeth on the flywheel and order the starter from that.

Besides the matching teeth, the starter motor must be aligned
correctly. You may need shims to correct alignment.

The info in this link may help:

Thanks for that clarification! We don't know what transmission the OP has but possibly he has bought, or been supplied, mis-matched starters?

I would suggest for you to use the starter with the cast iron nose.....The only difference is the nose, the internals are the same.....
