Default Master Cyl mounting nuts

Hi all, haven't had to post here yet due to all the great info availble already via the search funtion but now I have hopefully a very simple question. what size are the nuts that hold the brake master cylnder to the booster? replacing the master cylinder on my 1980 and i have 2 different nuts on there and no lockwashers (pretty sure neither one is original). neither one feels "right". they appear to be almost 3/8-16 but not quite. they came off w/out marring the threads on the studs but it was a b-tch and it shouldn't have been. i cleaned the studs with wd and a wire brush but they still go on funny. Any insight would be appreciated.

I believe there are 'fine' threads on those studs. 3/8"-24 NF nuts and lockwashers should do the job.

they're definitely coarse thread but i don't think 3/8. I have an m10x1.5 bolt that fits in the one nut that was salvagable (as opposed to the 3/8 nut that died during removal) almost just like the 3/8-16 bolt does but it will nor fit in a 3/8-16 nut (all new, verified hardware). hmmm i'm back at work this week so I have access to a pitch gage now i'll try that tonight and maybe the metric nuts too. Thanks for the resposes

Yours may have been replaced at some point, my 75 and 77 both have 3/8-16 coarse thread.

they could have been changed who knows. Brought home a mess of different nuts tonight and the winner is M10x1.5. the 3/8-16 can be made to go with a great deal of force but it ain't right, the M10 is just perfect. I know with other cars we've had over the years, ford and GM both, the '79s and 80's were half and half metric and english on the fasteners. oh well master cyl goes back in tomorrow. Thanks for your time.
