Default Front Spring Removal - Help....

Can someone explain how to remove the front spring by undoing the lower ball joint?

I removed the shock and sway bar. I was able to pop the spindle loose from the lower ball joint, but now what?

Do i need to jack up the control arm to have the ball joint threads clear the lower spindle?

78 corvette....

Yes, and then let the lower control arm down. But make sure you have the car high enough that the arm will go straight down, otherwise you will not release the spring.

Complete step-by-step instructions are in my "How to Rebuild your Front End" tech paper, available via e-mail request.

I can vouch for Lars paper. Very thorough, informative, and funny. I am to the point now that I will be removing the springs and a-arms this week. I have the utmost respect for that spring, and will be very careful when it comes time to release it. Don't take this step lightly.

Got it out without any problem. Had to use a pry bar to get the ball joint stud out of the spindle. Very simple process......

Don't forget to loosen the bushing bolts a turn or two first, so they will be able to swivel and allow the control arm to drop straight down. You will have to jack up the frame pretty high first. And guide the control arm down slowly and carefully with your floor jack.
RESPECT THE POWER OF THE COMPRESSED SPRING! It can remove a finger or a face if it hits you.
