72 plastic Rad shroud restore question
After a hour of "F" words my shroud is out (in one piece)
Is there any coating/paint to apply to make it look better
I was thinking of experimenting with a clear paint to keep it factory looking
anyone been there done that?
Happy new year

I do not apply any clear on it due to it can fail and begin to peel and require touch-ups which then makes it really a pain in the backside. I apply a specific wax that I have found that works well and it brings up the sheen and luster and it maintains the look of the material used to make it.

To make R&R easier, next time around, cut the thing 1/2 way up on each side, and take some strips of aluminum about 1/2" wide and 3" long making two sandwichs on each side fingers sticking up, into which the top half slides in place, fasten the top bolts an done....ran my stock shroud like that for some years....
You could use 'clear' engine enamel (Dupli-Color) to make it look better. I used that on my spare tire tub several years ago and it still looks great. It is made to handle 300*F, so the engine compartment temps should not be a problem.
Or, since it is plastic, you could just wipe it down with Nu-Vinyl or Meguiar's for plastics every now and then.

Congrats on getting it out in 1 hour....! What a pain in the ****. And mine had already been cut by PO. I now have shroud, radiator and support out and getting ready to replace them all. Just waiting for new seals. Thought I could save mine, but most were destroyed during removal. Removing the support was far worse than the shroud.
There is no way I would cut the shroud in half (I would have to sell the car and buy a Dodge) Just Kidding!!!
I did have to loosen the rad support and move it forward
almost removed the hood but didn't have to
I wasn't worried about the rad being damaged I'm having it re-cored anyway
I'm going to try waxing the shroud ,after washing it I was surprised to see the plastic had kind of a marble look to it
Happy new year

.... I have to keep this one to myself...due to all of the products I experimented with..on so many other "things" also...and the time I had spent finding the product(s) that works to revive the marble look or what ever I am trying to revive. This is one of the many benefits my customers have when I restore or "fine tune" their cars. I have to keep some "tricks" that I know work...because if I gave everything away....someone can come in and do everything right the first time and not have the "luxury" of having to learn from the school of hard knocks....like I did. I have to provide some distinction between me and others who also do Corvettes and have their customers show off their Corvettes. In a car show...I have to have my work be at the highest level possible..so my customers win.
This is what I do for a living. Though I give a lot of information/advice on the forum...there is a lot that I will not mention. It is like Kentucky Fired Chicken giving out its recipe on how it is made....if they did...then anyone could go make it.DUB
...there would be no way I would cut a shroud to get it out.For what it is worth...just in case you may not have thought of it. I take thick cardboard...and cut one piece that fits in between the tanks of the radiator and cover the front of the core...starting at eh bottom...then bend it up over the top...and then down the core where it is closest to the fan. Trim the cardboard to make sure is not too long at the bottom. I then tie a string in two places really tight so when I am installing it...nothing can easily damage the core...and when it is down in place...cut the strings and pull off the cardboard.

You may ask
......but....Sorry
