anyone know of any drop in led lights for the dash? how did they work, can you dim them? do they come in colors? im getting ready to fix some gauges and while im in there.....
That's a pretty cool web site. Thanks for the link!
The LED lights are pretty expensive but at least you can buy a couple from this site and see if you like them before spending a ton of money. Also, for te OP, I'm pretty sure that you can not dim LED lights.
Can't dim them, but light improves. If you buy white LED's, note that they might shine blueish. Mine do and it's magnified due to the white gauge overlays I have. I like it though
These bulbs only have a pair of wires bent over plastic to make contact. It's very flexible and I found that if not bent or tweeked to make contact when installed it won't work. They all seem to work when I play with them.
For a tenner you really can't go wrong with cheap LEDs.
I went with the warm white color because I wanted the car to appear original, but still have the benefits of LEDs (lower power consumption, cooler operation, longer life).
Pics:
The parts I'm running are the WLED-WWHP6-AC LEDs. 35mA draw, 9-14.5V operating range (so they dim a bit, but only about halfway down the dimmer, and then they shut off completely).
wow, both are great options. being able to change colors is something i had not considered, but looks more involved than i think i want to tackle.that superbrite website has so many styles of bulbs and how the led's are arranged I'm not sure which to get.

Reason: damn apple spell check.
You know, like a lot of guys, I've been fighting dim dash lights for some time, but why are they dim? I've pulled mine out, cleaned them, changed them the the highest wattage I can find, cleaned the gauges all that stuff. There has to be a voltage drop somewhere. Is it the headlight switch? The dash lights weren't this dim originally, so what changed? The bulbs are the same ones used in the license plate light, and corner marker lights and we don't have to go LED to get them bright, those are nice and bright, and if the dash lights worked like they do, we wouldn't be looking for alternatives. I don't have any problem going to the LED's and may, but I'd sure like to understand why the lights are dim in the first place. Any ideas?
mine were not dim, but I was in there anyway and dont care about dimming, althogh mine do have a dim step like a prev poster noted.
I figured i'd just eliminate a prob before it occurs.

Same for me. Just need to make sure wires touch contacts. Fouled up my speedo trying to get to the lights. Now have a new speedo on order and will be replacing it. Wish I had known about how to pull speedo before.
