I am looking at options on windshield replacement and had a few questions for those who have been there.
I understand the PPG replacement windshields are slightly thinner and need to be "shimmed" out for proper trim fit. I talked to one of the guys at Auto City Classics and he said their windshield was as thick as the original but didn't have any thickness or specs. Has anyone used their windshield to verify this?
I can by the PPG locally for $100.00 shipped, the ACC windshield will be 189.00 plus 110.00 shipping. Don't really see paying the extra if they are pretty close ( both will not be date correct).
Hi G,
What year is your car? Does the windshield have part of the bottom blacked-out?
Besides the shading, you may want to check that the windshield you decide to buy also has the correct black-out at the bottom.
There was a post a month or 2 ago where someone related about being sold a windshield that was supposed to fit but didn't have the correct shape/amount of black-out.
Regards,
Alan
Nobody makes a correct (as original) replacement windshield. All the replacements use thinner glass, the tint band is wrong etc. If you do not care about that then get a good replacement, all the windshield need to be shimmed on install or the outside trim will not fit flush against the windshield.
