Default Firewall Insulation for 72

Hey all. I started adding insulation to the firewall in order to mount the heater box. Will do Dynamat or other material when I get further along.

The original style (heavy) insulation I received from one of our suppliers is from Quietride. Ugh. The fit on mine was horrible. Not cut very well and the plug holes are far enough off to cause a big mess. For nearly 200 bux I guess I expected more. And the included plastic plugs look nothing like the original rubber plugs. I already bought a correct set of plugs from Paragon.

The question now is... What have you used that ended up being a great fit? Tnx!

I do not install the factory firewall material. It is outdated. I only apply the Dynamat Extreme and then the Dynapad. The I install the rubber firewall plugs like factory....along with glue for the Dynapad where needed. I custom cut and fit both layers. When completed...they fit like a glove.

I probably should have skipped the factory style insulation. It was all about those plugs looking proper in the engine compartment, and figured without them they'ed be poking out way too far. I guess I could have clipped the noses off and glued them in place to look right!

Oh well, I'll just trim and clip and glue and punch new holes in the correct locations, roll my eyes, and move on!!

When I install what I mentioned...the rubber firewall plugs are just fine and would pass the "eye" of the most "stickler for detail" individual i know...which is me.

Looks like we have the same affliction.

In the long run, I have to ask myself... is it really that big a deal? It must be an old school addiction for perfection, and my project is far from that. Or was, anyway. There I go again. Sooomebody stop me!

Nope... I can not stop you.

Those people who know me...know that a team of wild horses could not stop me from doing something I have my mind set to do.

PERFECTION....YEAH....I know it OH TOO well....or at least the "concept" of achieving it. The older I get...the stronger my passion gets.....and it gets REALLY BAD sometimes. I always tell myself..."Well...while you are right here...get it the best you can NOW...because if you do not...it WILL come back and haunt you."

Will do. Been too cold the last few days to work in the shop. I hope that changes soon!

Started the trimming, added new plug holes and gluing to make this fit. Not a big deal, but I'm not getting over these things going for nearly $200...and the fit is not even close.

Just to let you know...and...I HATE to tell you this...but the three rubber firewall plugs you installed on the passenger side...below where the heater box goes...are for the carpet...and NOT the firewall insulation.
