Default Engine Vin Number

Hey Guys,

Was hoping someone could help me identify the engine in my 1979 Corvette as I seem to be drawing a blank.

The code from the passenger side front of the engine is:

V0929ZAB

19S406964

Any help is appreciated. Also if you could shoot me a link of where you received your info from for future reference that would be great.

Hi s,
ZAB decodes as a Flint built 79 Corvette 350/195 with auto transmission.
I use the chart at nastyz28.com
6954 is the vin sequence of the car it was installed in originally
Regards,
Alan

Like Alan said V is for Flint. Engine built Sept 29th. ZAB is for L48 automatic 350/195, early production. Looks like they changed the suffix to ZAH later on.

Does your car have a trim tag build date after 9/29 and is it a auto L48?

Thanks I did not have this site yet saved in my Favorites

Here are a couple more good sites for research on your car.

ZAB is a L48 350-cid early production

195-hp V-8

8.2:1 Compression

Automatic Transmission

#6964 was assembled in October, 1978. Your engine assembly date of September 29, 1978 is good. Engines were assembled at Flint and shipped to St. Louis before assembly of the actual car was begun.
