I bought a '73 recently and was going through it. Well, I found some seriously rusted out parts in the rear compartments, one of which was a jack and tire iron. My guess is they were original, so what did I do...promptly threw them out. Also there was a small tool kit in similar condition. Anyhoo, my question is...was that a dumb move? I guess it really doesn't matter now since they are gone but I thought I'd ask anyway.
:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: You're right, it really doesn't matter now. Don't worry about it. However, you may feel a little discomfort when you go try and replace them... :( Good luck!
Don't sweat it.... most of these types of parts can be found readily at swap meets...car shows... etc.
I bought a nearly perfect jack and jack handle at a Vette swap meet for $10.00. The ones you chucked sounded like junk anyway. But you may want to hang on to original parts in the future for sentimental value if nothing else.
No, I don't think you screwed up...next time you are under the car, fixing a busted something along the roadside, would you want a jack bad enough to have been tossed out? Get one you can really trust. Stevo :yesnod:
Nobody drives a jack. The only reason to have a jack is to lift the car, not as a collector's item. If I were you I wouldn't think twice about it.

They judge those items at NCRS meets. But as other said, you can find them at swapmeets and on the used market fairly easily. So if they were totally unusable you still didn't screw up. :) ~Juliet
