Default Window crank handle removal, 1972

I thought this would be an easy job. I went out and bought the special tool to remove the C clip that I was sure was holding the window handle on. I was able to push the panel away from the window crank so that I could put an eyeball on the C clip. But...no C clip!!!! Didn't see anything there that was holding it on. I dragged out the assembly manual and there is NO C clip shown on the window handle or listed on the parts. They have one for the door lock ****, but not the window crank handle.
So how is this dang thing attached and how do I get it off??????

Hi Dep,
There should indeed be a clip on the window winder too.
It's not shown in the AIM, but was used.
Since there's the escutcheon and plate on the shaft too are you looking carefully? The clip can kinda get slipped to the side a bit and be hidden by the escutcheon.
Regards,
Alan

I'll check again. It's a real PITA to work on. Like rubbing your belly and patting your head at the same time.
Escutcheon and plate are GONE. So I get a real good view of the crank itself.

Sometimes you can reach in with a small pick and pull out the C-clip.

Hi D,
With the escutcheon and plate gone you should certainly see the clip. There are 2 cuts/ slits in the side of the handle where it slides onto the peg that the clip's prongs seat in... that's were clip should be if it's anywhere.
You may have to try prying the handle STRAIGHT off..... maybe it was put on with something like j-weld or epoxy.
Regards,
Alan

Alan: I am thinking you may be on target with this. Either I will grind away on the crank to where I can see things better (I can easily buy a replacement), or try using some "applied force" to see if I can pop it off.
It is a bit wobbly so it's not on real good. Actually seems like it might be that stoopid C clip holding it on. But I sure can't see it.

Understand I bought my car from Pro Team Corvette. They are notorious for Mickey-Mousing stuff just to get it sold. I may have to use brute force to get it fixed.

Most likely, a PO or mechanic has installed the "C"-clip backwards. If the handle is being retained, it must have a clip. Try inserting the removal tool from the opposite side of the handle.

Well the slot is NOT visible at all. I worked the snot out of that removal tool but it is doing NOTHING.This leads me to believe it is definitely a hack job. Somebody epoxied or did some other Mickey Mouse attachment to the window handle There IS NO CLIP. There IS NO SLOT. So I am going to fix a hack job WITH a hack job. I will grind off this &()^SI7698^096 piece of junk and then go from there.
