Wherever you buy your parts, ask if they carry more than one brand/line. Most carry the "cheapo" parts (the first option offered) and also a higher priced (higher quality...usually) parts. Ask what the difference is. If the salesperson can't answer that question, go somewhere else.

NAPA usually carries 2 or 3 lines of parts: cheap, better, and good. The cost differential is sometimes quite a lot; but, we're talking about brake parts, here. The car needs to stop, steer, and handle decently. And you don't want to rebuild these "lifetime" systems every few years.

So, spend some extra money to buy "quality" and "reliability". You and your passengers are worth it.

Brake threads are kind of like oil threads....everyone has a different opinion regarding lip seals and o-ring seals. I read different opinions and even watched videos about caliper seals. My understanding is that o-ring seals are less likely to leak, but they keep the brake pads pressed tighter against the rotors after a brake application causing the brake pads to wear prematurely. I'm not sure about this so don't give me a long dissertation about how I am wrong.

Summit Racing and Jegs sale a C3 Corvette brake set from SSBC with new calipers, pads and all the brake hoses. Their set is new and does not require a core charge and is priced about the same as some suppliers sale rebuilt calipers for.

if a rear caliper, you have to bleed both, inside first I think, then outside, also a good idea to bleed the entire system, since you had gunk in the one. Check on forum for correct bleeding sequence.

If you are replacing everything take a look at Muskegan Brake, do a search for them. They sell a complete "kit" of quality parts and are resonable. The brake booster get from a Corvette vendor that is a new one, not a rebuild. Make sure you really need one as they are a PIA to change out.

I picked up rebuilt Cardone calipers at O'Reillys stainless sleeved with lip seals for both fronts. One leaked right out of the box, another one a year after install. Problem is it's a lifetime warranty so it's just too easy to go back and get another.

Thanks guys. I'm running manual brakes, so I won't need a booster.
