I chipped my wiper cowl door somehow, the metal looks to be some type of "potmetal", has anyone had success welding this part? It was chipped right at the tip where a screw threads in.
It is pot metal with a high content of aluminum. A competent welder can make repairs for you. You may want to try an archives search since others have reported successful repairs to these (and headlight supports).

I always thought it was made of cast aluminum like the headlight bezels. I repaired a cracked bezel using a mig welder with a aluminum spool and argon gas.
If you do your own stick welding, there is a company called Muggy Weld that sells some low temprature electrodes specifically for that purpose. The videos are pretty impressive, but then, they are trying to sell you a product, so some other opinions are probably needed. I personally haven't used their product.
I have used "Muggy Weld" and love the products. They DO work as shown.
And as for welding the wiper door. I have also experienced broken corners and such and YES it can be welded, filed and drilled and made to look like it never happened.
