Default 68 lighting question

Have 68 coupe I am reworking. Dash is out with wiring exposed. question is regarding dash lights. Did not work when I got the car and put new headlight switch in. When I connect headlight switch and connect battery,I get headlights, tail lights and marker light. No dash lights at all. Fuses are good. Do I need to have dash back in place with bulbs plugged in for ground? If so great. what else should I look for before I put it all back together? Thanks for any tips you can give me- not an electrical genius!!!! Paul

The bulb needs a ground... so to test them, jump a ground wire from the A pillar and touch it to he fingers that hold the bulb in place.

Thanks makes sense. I was concerned as lights didn't work before I took dash apart and hope that a bad headlight switch was the problem.. Thanks for the help neighbor-- live near Versailles in Milan Paul

Well just hook up one ground, then just pass it over each lamp.. only takes a minute or two... You get stuck on putting the dash back in let me know too.

I hope you have the column out.. if not before you go back you might want to remove it. Your only 7 bolts from having it out.. and with it out you will keep from damaging your lower dash pad. There are instructions on the site on how to remove a dash pad the easy way.. http://willcoxcorvette.com/repairand...lp.php?hID=318 click on supporting document.

Milan.. The real Hickory High...

I know exactly where you are.. lets see.. Bobby Plumb, 1954... I'm a basketball junkie... lol. North of Aurora. You should come down sometime...
