Steering Box Lube
What type of lube do you use in the steering box? How do you get it in the box? Thanks Chuck

I removed the bolt at the upper right and filled until I could see the grease at the bolt hole at the upper left. Filled with a plastic squeeze tube (e.g. PolyFill) with the flat bottom end cut off. And cleaned the tube beforehand of course. What did I use? I may get into deep doo-doo here with members because I know there is a special GM lube for this purpose. But it was not in stock. So someone here suggested ordinary chassis lube with some Mobil 1 added. I mixed up a thick slurry; about one to four, oil to grease and squeezed it in the top hole. Seems fine: no problems so far. But I would certainly listen to others' opinions before you do the job.

in 67 manuals called for chassis grease, in 70 called for "special" gear lube from GM, same box just different philosophy I think, used chassis grease in all cars I have owned over years with not problems. :D :cheers:
