My 77 started acting up (again, gee imagine that). As I was driving this AM the interior lights came on. I couldn't get them to shut off. I played with the door switches, nothing. I turned the light switch back and forth, still nothing. But when I hit a bump they statred to flicker on & off. I banged around the door switch & overhead light to no avail. The last place I banged my fist over was the headlight switch and I noticed it would flicker on & off everytime. So it must be in that area. What gives? New light switch. This is also a problem area for me when I run my dash lights. The voltage meter drops a good 2 points. Hmmm.
Well tommorow I'll be pulling out the switch to inspect & clean . What kind of job am I looking at? What needs to be removed? I'm not sure how the actuall **** itself comes off.
I replaced the switch in my 82. If yours is the same this is how you remove the rod. there is a little button on the bottom of the switch housing (under the dash), push that in and the rod will abe allowed to be pulled out. Don't forget to remove the switch nut which holds it to the dash.
First I have never pulled the light switch, but I would guess you are talking about the same procedure as changing the drivers side speaker.
Pull right side and center dash (might be able to get by without removing) sections, undo the dash pad and lift. That shoud get you to the switch. There should be a button on the bottom of the switch that releases the ****. Then pull the switch.
While you have it this far apart, are there any "while I'm at it" things you want to do.
