Default Brake lights always on, help?

I have a 78, since last fall the break lights have been stuck on. Has anyone had this happen? I assume it's the brake switch stuck or maybe something to do with the ebrake. Any thoughts?

I had the same problem when I purchased my '81. It was the brake lamp switch. It was out of adjustment. Once I adjusted it she was good to go.

Yep. Ditto for my 68. Switch needed a tweak.

Hi D,
The brake light switch has a plunger in it's end that a tab on the brake pedal pushes in to turn the lights on.
Perhaps the plunger on your switch is stuck 'in'.
Get your head under the dash to take a look.
Regards,
Alan

To adjust it. Loosen the two bolts on the threaded shaft of the switch. This will allow the stop button to move up and down freely. When you find the position when the lights go out, move the upper bolt down to the bracket and spin the lower one up on the threads to tighten it on the bracket. Check to see if your brake lights come on, when you press on the brake pedal, if they due, your done, if not just readjust a little more until it works. Then tighten the two nuts up tight to the bracket. Not too tight, you don't want to break the plastic shaft. Good luck.
