I have '73 convertible that I'm doing a frame off restoration on and in doing so I am replacing all the bushing. I believe the rear strut rods are original, but when I ordered a set of bushing for the car they are too small. I measured the strut bar hole at 1.36". This seems like the size for the '75-82 cars. Should I just go with the bushing for these cars?

Jim,
It will depend on how correct you want this frame-off.
I have noticed that the bearing support housing for the rear bearings...where the strut rod attaches at the bottom...the cast iron that surrounds the bushing for the strut rod is larger in the later years Corvette versus the Corvettes from earlier years.
DUB thanks for the note. Not sure why GM went to a larger bushing size, maybe to provide a sooner ride. I'm stumped as to why I have the larger strut rods on a '73. The guy I bought it from owned it for 38 years and has every receipt from 75 to the present. I don't recall any receipt for replacement of the strut rods, but it's possible he did and in doing so, got the newer style.
I guess I'll need to decide if I change the bushing or the entire rods.
