Making sure that your radiator cap is GOOD and is a "CLOSED SYSTEM" 15 lb cap...and that your system is tight and it will hold pressure. Then it will also depend that you have the overflow coolant tank and a good hose going from eh radiator to this tank.
When the engine gets hot and pressure is built up...and the overflow tank has a good amount of coolant in it...when the engine is shut off and is allowed to cool down. Air in the block will expel out into the overflow tank and then the system will draw coolant mix from the overflow tank and fill up the radiator.
Just leave the pressure cap off until the engine warms up and the thermostat opens and flows a bit. Then, stick the cap back on it. Everyone makes a big deal out of this. But, it's all too simple.
i drill a couple small holes in the thermostat it helps move the air through even before it opens.
I just drill a 1/8th hole to keep a little movement and circulation until the thermostat opens instead of a hit of cold fluid. The C3 system can't be bled. It's full of air. Squeeze your upper rad hose. It's all air. I am fortunate enough to have a 69 427 with an expansion tank and if you put a bit too much in it, the upper rad hose will still be full of air and the expansion tank will puke everything out on the ground just behind the right front wheel...
