So I was out driving the '77 this weekend and there is a new problem developing.
Occasionally, when I turn the car to the left, I get a "thud" or "thunk" sound that seems to be coming the front-left of the car. Doesn't happen every time but every once in a while. The front-end feels super tight at the steering wheel and nothing appears to be loose under the car. And this only happens when turning to the left, never to the right.
Any idea what this might be? One side note... I replaced the Power Steering Control Valve about a month ago. Could I have screwed something up with that?
Are you SURE that ALL bushings are in good shape and are attached correctly and you have NO missing bolts and washers from them....and that the upper control arms are properly secured as designed. I have seen the nuts get loose on upper control arms and the shims fall out and can make this sound.
Sway bar end links and bushings in good shape and tight.
NO broken welds on the cradle where the lower control arms are know to have happen.
Have you checked the upper and lower ball joints? They can clunk and pop, especially under load. BTW, your faulty parts will be tied to a load related area, bvy the description you give. The fact it happens in a turn gives this clue away. Post back with your finding!
If your rolling and it happens, it could be anything from the hub bearings to the ball joints. Standing still and turn, a thud is usually a ball joint!
