Have just put in a different distributor and new tach cable in my 1969 350 HP corvette and the tach gear is driving the tach cable the wrong direction. I installed a new 90 degree elbow so I would not have to bend the cable so much. Any ideas or suggestions. Cowboylar37
Take the elbow out and put it back together then clock the distributor for the best angle to the firewall hole. It is impossible for it to turn backwards.
I think Lars has a paper on how to clock the distributor and take the severe angle out of the cable. Cable will not last long if clocked at too much and you will soon be replacing it again. On a '69, getting to the rear of the tach is no fun with the limited dash clearance. Which you may already know.
Hi c,
Is the distributor set so the advance can is forward of the ignition shielding box bracket? It should be set so the advance can is to the rear of ignition shielding bracket.
In that position the tach cable has a gentle curve from the distributor connection to the firewall grommet it passes through.
Might you be able to re-set the distributor?
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
I also bought one of those elbows.....but followed the AIM (Assembly Manual) and didn't need it.
Wasn't happy with previous owner's ignition wire routing and went back to OEM wire routing. What a drill it was buying and installing all of the heat shields and ignition shielding parts. Alan71 helped me with the boomerang and oil pan clips! Had to pull the distributor and reset it to the AIM. The neat thing was after installing everything by the AIM, I didn't need a 90 degree elbow and the TAC Cable lined up right.

Hi Alan. I have the distributor on my 69 427 clocked the same way as yours but it wasn't original. I did it the same as your pic to get a straight shot with the tach cable. It was turned one position over from the factory but I like it and is easier to adjust.
