DJ, although you didn't ask my opinion, I will say Dub is a great asset to this forum. Your experience with him might not have gone as well as you had hoped for, but just think of your own job and after spending all day and then some there, you go home to help others with less knowledge. Trust me, I'm not trying to tear you down and these cars can sometimes want us to commit hari kari, but hopefully you will see in due time, Dub is and will always be an asset, not just to me and a few others, but you also.
Good luck with your project and I hope you enjoy your C3 like they were meant to be enjoyed.

Bill: That is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. I have resolved my situation with Dub in a way that I think will work for both of us. I consider it as "case closed" and am moving on.

I think I am gonna do what Hugie82 suggested and drill a hole in both inside door panels. He sent me pics of what he did and I think that will be a nice insurance policy in case this happens in the future. Those clips and some of the rods are so flimsy that it's a surprise that they have lasted this long. I have a couple of clips that are barely attached so I will be replacing all that junk when I start the main fix to the handle linkage.

Is there any chance I can talk you into posting pictures? I'd like to see where you drilled the holes.

Ingenious...YES......practical to all C3's ...no.

Just be aware...that drilling that hole does not mean that you can open the "locked-down" door on ALL C3 Corvettes...through this hole. On a 1981...there is no lower section to the 1/4 panel interior trim...so the door lack pillar is different. On a 1976...that is something entirely different...along with the door panels being different.

This is mainly due to the 1/4 panel trim and how it may cover this area on your Corvette.

And this drilled hole is only beneficial...in my opinion...if you can not get the window to go down.

After seeing it, I wouldn't do it. It's easy enough to get to once the window is down.

WISE. I looked at a 1975 I have in the shop..which has the same style door panel that you car has (77)...and due to the 1/4 panel interior trim and how it is made...drilling this hole is USELESS.

Now I am aware that the 1/4 panel interior trim stops at 1975...I still believe that the area that is covered by the rubber trim that is on the carpet still effects the access to this area if a hole were to be drilled. Check it out on your own car and make a decision.

SO from 1968 to 1975...drilling this hole will not allow you to access it when the door is shut and the seat tilted forward. Unless you want to custom make a special tool that will work...and honestly...even though I am a "tool *****" and make numerous tools for specific jobs...I would not waste my time on this one...because that means that I would have to drill a hole in a customers car...where it was not originally designed to have one and be visible.

Come in from the top of the door and push down.
Once you get it open you can fix the problem.

I know the OP's door is open and that's great, so I am a little bit late on this thread, but if you push down where the circle is wont that just unlock the door, not pop it open, but unlock it?

OOOps forgot pic.
