Default Core support center rod

I have done a pretty good job of keeping track of everything I have taken off the Corvette this winter, but seem to have misplaced the bolt that connects the rod that goes from the lower center of the radiator core support to the front of the car between the headlights. I have purchased a new rod since the other fell apart when I tried to take it apart, so I have the nut for the lower end that bolts to the core support, but not the bolt that goes into the top.

Anybody know what size it is so I can try to find a bolt locally? I hate to order something like that through mail order unless I have a bunch of little things to buy at the same time.

Thanks a million!

John

The bolt is 5/16, and I believe I remember it as a fine thread. The threaded portion it is going into is only fairly thin sheetmetal. If neither the 5/16 inch thread pitches work, consider substituting a self tapping 5/16 bolt.

5/16-18 bolt with a spinning washer on it...or just get and bolt and washer.

why didn't you post this a few days ago.....? i just went thru this tues night.
my problem was with the bottom fixing.
i bagged n tagged everything i took off, but for the life of me i couldn't find what went thru there.
i tried the only self tapper left over, like the one's that hold the a/c condenser, no go.
i ended up putting a long 1/4" bolt n nut thru the panel and doing up from underneath.
guess i'll now have to maybe check for a 5/16" bolt that's floating around somewhere.....

Sorry riverracer, I guess it takes some time for like minded thoughts to connect from Australia to Virginia. I have been thinking about this, and looking for the offending bolt for days before I finally posted the question. It pays to ask this forum when you have a question, because the wealth of information here will likely have a solution, and someone else in the Corvette family is having that same issue at that very moment. And it is better to ask sooner, rather than later. This place is priceless.

Thanks to everyone who answered me here. I am on my way to Home depot after work to pick up nuts and bolts that I will need to finish my radiator install and hopefully be back on the road soon.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. I went to my local Tractor Supply Company to look for radiator mounting hardware, and found what they call "Body Bolts" in 5/16-18x7/8 that work perfectly. They are black and have an end that is pointed like many of the other bolts that are in the bodywork, and include a washer. For $2.00 I was thrilled.

I buy quite a lot from that store...one of my local favorite places to browse. Always interesting stuff there.
