Default 73 seating plate rivet length query

Hi

I hope someone might be able to answer this query for me.

I have a 73 C3 and have just bought a mounting plate for my driver seat (as it was missing - GM Part#3932814) and the accompanying rivets which are 9/16" long and 1/16" thick.

I have drilled the holes for the mounting plate and put the rivet in and it is too short. It barely extends through the floor and therefore does not have sufficient length to extend past the mounting plate.

Has anyone else had this issue and what is the fix? From my searching there does not appear to be any long rivets available. I would need a rivet over an inch long to be clear of the floor and the plate.

I could counter sink the rivet head a 1/4+" which would give me the length required. It is this how it is done?

Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

Cheers

Hi A67,
The AIM indicates the rivet originally used in that location #3828550 was 5/8" long.
My belief is that the purpose of those 2 rivets was to hold the plate in place until the body got to the point on the line that the seat track bolt was installed.
I'd think if even a little bit of the rivet shank could be flared the installation would be satisfactory.
Has the underbody had any work done to it where that plate mounts?
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan. I think there has been some work on the underbody by the previous owners which may have increased the floor thickness and thus the issue with the rivet length. I concur with your comment about the purpose of the rivet so I need to either counter sink them and use the ones I have or come up with another way of fixing them.

Thanks again

I'm a newby and would love to know where other aussies are sourcing parts. I picked up a '73 too and I can see where the money is about to go. To import or not to import? Most of the gear I would need will be corvette original ie the motor g/box and diff are excellent. Just bits of interior, brakes, suspension rubbers etc. Give me a hoy if you find the time
