Is the power steering pump mounted correctly? Is the alternator mounted correctly? Are you sure the alternator pulley is the correct one? Is the belt routed correctly?

Can you post a pic?

Default Pump position

There's very little clearence in the same place on mine too. Your mounts look correct. Perhaps the removal and a slight bend of the pump bracket may give you the clearence needed.

I can't see for sure, but it looks like your alternator is about at the end of it's travel on the adjusting brace. i would say the belt is a little too long. Get the correct belt that's called out for it, or one that's an inch or two shorter than what you've got.

Thats what it looks like to me as well. Get the next size down on belt you may need to take valve cover off to get belt on and tighten it then put valve cover back on

The other alternative would be to place a thick flat-washer in appropriate mounting locations on the alternator bolts/studs, so that it is moved forward just a bit.

As mentioned above, is it possible that a lower support brace has been left out of the P/S pump build?

This is a better solution as opposed to bending brackets.

Scrappy,

Take a look at my photo. Notice I stuck a few washers to move the alt bracket out a tad. I also used the stock FAT washer under the belt adjusting bracket. Also looking at your alt bracket, looks a little different them mine. BTW: Mine is from a 1975 parts car: cast iron.

The way I decided how many washers to install was by the interference that you are trying to fix and both pulleys MUST be even, not cocked. Can't tell by your photos.

Can only post one picture per post. So may be back with another picture.

Default Alternator & PS Pump Clearance

One more picture. Showing more of the alternator bracket and the clearance between the belt and PS pump.
