Default Block 3963512 Casting Date

Hello, I have a Cylinder Block 3963512 or what is referred to as the "512" Block. In my Book " Corvette by the Numbers" it clearly sez that the Block was cast from Oct 1968 threw 1971 and was both used for 427 and 454 apps. However my casting Date is E 1 4. Which should be May 1st, 1974 which is way past the books call of 1971. One would instantly think that's because it was a service replacement Block. No I don't have any serial number. But is that so ? Did they cast up a bunch more 512 blocks only to keep the Parts counters supplied ? Its not like they didn't have other blocks to sell that would work for the same application. Ok so maybe I reading this all wrong, and its really 1964, and I have the original "Mystery Motor"

I believe the 512 block, was only cast from 68-71. At least I've never seen any other casting dates attributed to it.

The numbers cast into blocks, aren't always the easiest to read. Are you absolutely sure it's a 512? The 3963513 replaced the 512, and was cast from 73-76, which fits nicely with your E-1-4 casting date.

Or could the casting date possibly be E-1-9?

Never mind. I took the 9 for a rivet holding the casting date to the Mold. The Real Casting date is E 14 9 or May 14th 1969. Or possibly B 14 9 . (February) one way or another its nothing unusual.
