My speedo cable is not connected to the speedo. When trying to connect it do you have to push in the clip to connect it as you did to disconnect it? On a side note the cable appears to be too short. It is a few inches from the speedo and you have to really have to pull it to the speedo. I wonder if they make cables long enough so you can just push it in. Vehicle is a 79 AT no cruise control.
Hi Og7,
It appears the cable for a 77, auto, w/o cruise, should be 62" long.
Have you checked that? Are you sure the cable is passing through the firewall at the proper location, and is routed correctly?
The connector just pushes into place on the speedo case and the clip sets itself. The clip only needs to be depressed to remove the cable.
Regards,
Alan
The vendors list the length for a 79 as 62 inches, however Zip corvette lists theirs as 64 inches. Part #m-333. If you are happy with the way the cable is routed and need another inch to be comfortable, then get the 64 inch one. Is this a new one you bought? Might be able to get a 63 at a local parts store.
Have to check to see if it is routed properly. Bought this cable in 2006 (found an old thread I posted back then) Weather is going to be crappy in Norfolk all week. Was curious if the clip had to be pushed in to install I now know it does not. I will remove it and measure it.
