Electric fuel pump question.
I want to keep my mechanical pump, but add a electric pusher pump,back at the tank. I don't want to run the eletric pump all the time, just when I'm at the track. Is anyone using a electric pump that doesn't restrict fuel flow, when its not running.

I run an electric pusher pump on all my cars at the track to eliminate top-end lean-out. I run Pontiacs on the track, and these are notorious for running out of fuel at the top end of second gear - even with a very good quality machanical pump. You can install a cheap Purolator electric pump (about $40 at Checker) back at the tank - just splice it into the rubber hose between the tank and the frame rail line. You can install a switch under the dash and run it only when you're at the track. It will "freewheel" when you leave it off, and your car will run normally with the electric pump "off" under normal driving conditions.
If you want the pump to run all the time, you need to take additional precautions with an oil pressure cutoff switch and a return fuel line. Contact me if you need info on these types of upgrades.
