if you can snake your hand up behind the dash, much easier if you do not have AC.
by feel follow the cable to the back of the speed O, once you arrive at the back with your fingers around the cable, push in on the bottom of the cable, this will release the spring clip holding the cable, keep the clip pushed in, and have someone else pull on the cable towards the front of the car. it should release, might take try or 2.
to reinstall push new cable in from firewall, feel with hands back up under dash and guide it back to the speed O, Clip and insertion location.
and push in towards back of car, with luck it will slide right into place.
you do this by feel not sight.
Bubba size hands don't work very well with this procedure.

Hi 71,
This is the clip that needs to be pushed to release the cable as 69V described. You push the bottom of it…the 'prong'.
When you re-install the cable just pushing it in sets the clip.
