I've got a 81 aluminum rear setup on my 64 restomod. It's setup with the VBP dual mount spring. I have one continual issue that I can't figure out. I'm wondering if anyone else has the same issue.
The issue is that the black poly bushing blocks that are part of the clamping fixture on each of the dual mount locations, keep coming out. These are the blocks that clamp the spring together and hold it in position under the rear diff. It's not because the block becomes lose. I've had to replace them once a year it seems like. I'm wondering if they are getting squeezed out?
I only drive the car about 500 miles per year, only local cruising. Nothing hard.
Are these the Pads that are part of the movable plates that control how stiff the spring will be ? If so the Bolts that hold them can't be tightened very much or the blocks will warp and this might of all ready happened. The first time I drove my car I lost one of the bolts because they can't be tightened enough to stay put. So I ended up safety wiring them so they don't get lost. If I remember correctly the bushings have a peg and hole setup that needs to be aligned when they are assembled.
I had the same problem on the left rear lower block. I told VBP I was having an issue and they suggested to glue it and sent me another set of blocks. I scuffed the pad and plate with a scotch brite pad and used some rubber cement. Also, I use blue Loctite on the 4 plate bolts for each side.
